Failures needing grace, unable to obey

Austin Gardner • September 22, 2023

And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient. Exodus 24:7.

God gave great details about how they were to build the Tabernacle. He also told them how He expected them to conduct their laws. After hearing what God wanted, they said that they would do so and be obedient. They built the Tabernacle after His instructions and the way He wanted.

But the truth is that being obedient is really beyond us. We are sinners. We mess up regularly. We fail. God gave us the law to show us our weaknesses. We see that we fail, that we can't.

That is why they would offer sacrifices for their sin, their failures in that very Tabernacle. They would try to be obedient but fail.

You can try all you want to do right, be right, obey, and do what you are supposed to, but you will fail. It is your nature. It is that you are rebellious and do not want to do what is right. We are too self-centered.

That is why we need His grace. That is why we need His sacrifice. In Christ, we are obedient. And any true obedience you see in our lives comes from His working in and through us!
