Selfishness
Webster's 1828 dictionary defines selfishness as
"The exclusive regard of a person to his interest or happiness; or that supreme self-love or self-preference, which leads a person in his actions to direct his purposes to the advancement of his interest, power or happiness, without regarding the interest of others. Selfishness, in its worst or unqualified sense, is the very essence of human depravity and stands in direct opposition to benevolence, which is the essence of the divine character. As God is love, so man, in his natural state, is selfishness."
Alas, this sin has plagued my life. I so often think of myself and how everything affects me. Please understand that I am quick to work out a way to make it sound like I am more interested in truth or something else, but that is just a cover.
Selfishness is the most horrible of sins.
Warren Wiersbe said, "Love always enlarges and enriches, while selfishness does just the opposite."
Someone has said, "Selfishness tarnishes everything it touches." "Selfishness is a very little world inhabited by one man."
God has strongly convicted me of the selfishness in my life. I want to die to myself, take up my cross, and live for Jesus. My life should be dedicated to the cause of Christ and others. The goal is to not think about me and how it affects me but what glorifies God.
