Most people who love missions never board a plane.

They pray at the kitchen table. They give what they can. Then they wonder if any of it counts.

It counts. The Father who sent His Son into the world has always brought His family along, and He never meant for anyone to carry the work alone.

World Vision Church built its Missions Department on that idea. It offers five ways to get involved, and each one begins with people, not pressure. Let me walk you through each door.

Start With a Seat at the Table

Once a month, on a Friday evening, the Missions Fellowship meets. Missions-minded people gather to pray, talk, and get to know each other. You also get the chance to meet furloughing World Vision Church missionaries face to face.

Paul thanked the believers in Philippi for their "fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now." Philippians 1:5

Missions has always been a shared work. It has always started with people in the same room.

This door asks nothing of you. You don't need a plan or a calling story. You show up, listen, and pray.

When Someone Hears the Call

Every missionary World Vision Church sends out first enrolls in the Nurture Program. It includes reading, ministry, Bible classes, and seminars, and it comes with accountability.

Some people tense up at that word. I understand. But I spent decades in Arequipa, Peru, and I can tell you the field is a hard place to land unprepared or alone. The Nurture Program keeps a church close to a missionary before the plane ever leaves the ground.

Here's the grace underneath it. God made you His own before you ever did a thing for Him. Paul says it plainly:

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."  Ephesians 2:10

The workmanship comes first. The good works follow. The Nurture Program doesn't help you earn a place. It helps you walk in the one God already prepared.

If you sense God stirring in your heart, contact the missions department about enrolling. If you'd rather stand beside someone as an accountability partner, contact them about that, too. Both matter.

Every Missionary Needs a Barnabas

A Barnabas team is a small group of committed people who meet regularly to pray for, support, and encourage a World Vision Church missionary. You can join an existing team. You can also help care for a missionary who doesn't have a team yet.

The other apostles gave Barnabas his name, which means son of consolation (Acts 4:36). Then Luke shows us why it fit. When Barnabas arrived in Antioch, this is what happened:

"Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord." Acts 11:23

He saw grace. He got glad. Then he encouraged people. That's the whole work of a Barnabas team.

Picture a missionary on a discouraging day, far from home, knowing a handful of people are praying for them by name. That changes the day. I've stood on that side of the world, and the prayers of faithful people held us up more than they will ever know.

For the Ones Still Wondering

Our Missionary Fellowship meets monthly for anyone considering missions. The evening holds worship, prayer, fellowship, testimony, and the Word. It's an encouraging time, and you don't need your mind made up to walk in.

Jesus told His disciples where the sending really begins:

"Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest."  Matthew 9:38

Notice who does the sending. The Lord of the harvest does. Your part is to listen and pray, and to stay near people who love you while you find out what He's saying.

The Hands That Hold It All Up

Not every way to serve involves a stage. The missions department sometimes needs help with set-up and tear-down for events. Furloughing missionaries sometimes need help moving or donating clothing and household items.

Paul wrote:

"Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."  Galatians 6:2

Christ already carried the heaviest burden. Now His people get to carry a box or two.

A missionary just home after years overseas may need a truck, a strong back, and a bag of warm clothes more than another sermon. You can be that answer.

Pick One Door

Nobody has to do all five. Try the Friday fellowship. Ask about a Barnabas team. Offer a hand the next time a missionary moves. Contact the missions department and tell them which door caught your eye.
