Always be Looking for Someone to Train

Put the ball in their court

I Samuel 14:52 And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.

The kingdom of Israel is just beginning. The new king Saul started with a special touch from God. God sent a band of men after Saul. It was God that touched their hearts and sent them to Saul. Pray that God will do that with you and your ministry. Always be asking God in prayer to give you a band of men.

Saul’s second thing was to always be on the lookout for men he could call to work with or for him. He was a king, and I doubt there was much of the idea of a team. You are a pastor, so please call them to come with you and spend time with you and serve them.

Just like Saul, you should constantly be on the outlook for men to train for ministry. Let me give you three things to look for in these young men.

They are faithful to the services, but more than that, they are eager to be around you and do whatever they can to be part of what God is doing. So they come to all the services, show up early, stay late, and are always underfoot. What do you reckon God is doing?

They are attentive. We all know that most people that come to church will not be leaning forward in their chairs, asking questions, and being super interested. They will talk to their friends, sleep, and play with their phones, but there is that one. He is all in. You better be talking to him.

Then put the ball in their court. I refer to giving them opportunities and seeing how they respond. For example, you can start with something as small as memorizing and discussing a Bible verse with you by the next meeting. If they do, give them something else to do and continue doing more and asking for more. You have probably found someone to train.

God sent you to lead that ministry to train people. Most people are not teachable. They will know more than you, have their opinions. They may even feel like they are there to teach you. Just be on the lookout because God is sending you some men.
