Blessed to be a Blessing

The work of God moves forward at the rate we decide to honor Him with the blessings He gives.

Genesis 12:1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

One of the most extraordinary men in the Bible is Abraham. God will bless him in ways that no one has ever seen before.

God called Abram to start a new nation. A nation of people that would be special to Him. A chosen people who would have the job of taking the gospel to the world. They were to be a blessing to all. God would protect them. He would bless those who blessed them because they were and are called and elect people on a mission for Him. They were to get the knowledge of this God that had called Abram to the world.

I call your attention to the fact that God blessed Abraham and his people to bless the world. God never blesses us here on this earth to keep it to ourselves.

Israel succeeded in great things. God gave us a Bible through Israel and started the church. The Savior, Jesus, came through Israel. They failed, and God temporarily placed them to one side, as a nation, from the job God gave them. They will, however, be back on the job soon.

They forgot why God chose them. They would count their blessings instead of the cost of doing what He wanted.

The work of God moves forward at the rate we decide to honor Him with the blessings He gives. If Jesus would leave all He had, how much more should we be like that? We are to realize that our blessings mean more responsibility.

Have you learned to count your blessings? Have you considered that God blessed you so you could be a blessing?

We must remember what God called the church to do. God called the church to bless the world by getting the gospel to all. God’s remarkable promises to His church as His elect and chosen people remind His people of their responsibility.
