Book Review of "Wanting" by Luke Burgis

Austin Gardner • October 12, 2022

The premise  of the book  is humans don’t desire anything independently. Human desire is mimetic―we imitate what other people want.

Wanting, desiring, coveting are all the same thing. Why do we want what we want? How much of what we want is related to our imitation of others and what they want.

How much do we really think for ourselves? This book shook me and woke me up. People act in groups. Social media has propelled this ever more.

I especially enjoyed the mimetic relationship between Ferrari and Lamborghini.
