Faith can only live by feeding on God Himself

the deep silence of soul that yields itself for God to reveal Himself

Andrew Murray said, “Faith can only live by feeding on what is Divine, on God Himself. It is in the adoring worship of God, the waiting on Him and for Him, the deep silence of soul that yields itself for God to reveal Himself, that the capacity for knowing and trusting God will be developed.”

Faith does not believe in one’s self or abilities, but in God. How do we think so deeply about God? We do so by worshipping Him. We learn to be quiet.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

In our world, it is so hard to shut it all off. When I was a boy living on the farm, it was nothing to lie in the tall grass and look at the sky. I would lay there trying to make images from the clouds while singing to the top of my lungs, and no one could hear but a few cows. I would think about God and what he was doing in my life. It was God and me alone.

That is hard to accomplish today. Social media is calling. That game on the phone keeps our minds occupied. Most of us have not read another book after high school or college. Few read their Bibles often.

We pray, but even our prayers are about us. When was the last time we just sat quietly before God? I am under conviction right now, just thinking about it.

This week, let’s find some alone time. Turn off the phone, the iPad, the computer, the watch, the tv, and even the conversation. Time to seek God. Time to pray and wait for God.

Let’s be still before God this very week. Let’s meditate on Bible truths about his person. Read about his majesty, his love. Read anything about him and sit there contemplating God, who he is, what he does, and what he wants.

I believe it will change our lives. What about you?
