There will be consequences

He sees and knows

II Kings 5:25 But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. 26 And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

It is amazing to me how we think we can get away with doing wrong. This story surely illustrates that. The servant has worked with Elisha for many years. Gehazi knows how God uses Elisha. Gehazi knows that God tells Elisha things, but on this day, he decides he can get away with taking money and things. He thinks no one will find out what he has done.

Gehazi goes after Naaman and asks for an offering that Naaman had previously offered, and Elisha turned down. He takes that offering and hides it. He thinks no one knows, but God has shown Elisha.

There was nothing wrong with taking offerings at different times, but this wasn’t one of those times. He had betrayed Elisha and what he wanted.

God is not trying to hold out on you. But know this, God knows, and your sin will bite you in the end. Don’t assume that God doesn’t know. Please do not assume that there are no consequences. Don’t be that crazy!
