Where did Cain get his Wife

Austin Gardner • December 30, 2022

God only puts the stories in the Bible that we need to know His story!

Genesis 4:17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

One of the favorite questions of the skeptic is; where did Cain get his wife? This verse shows that Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters. We do not know their names. We don't get their stories, but they were present.

That is where Cain got his wife. He married his sister. That wasn’t unusual in the Bible or historical times. Abraham was married to his half-sister. He marries his first cousin. There are other stories of familial marriages. Abraham sent his servant back to his people to get a wife for Isaac.

God only puts the stories in the Bible that we need to know His story! He is telling us the story of redemption, of salvation. There is no wonder if we have all the facts. We do not!

If not, there would be no way one book could contain the 4,000 years of history in so few pages as the Bible. The history of Israel, the story of Christ, and the history of the early church are important. God left much out! God chooses the stories He needs to teach us the lessons we need.

He tells us what we need to know to get the point. We are sinners. Men always fail. God is always good. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ!
