Who is this David to lead the nation of Israel?

They are looking for a guy who has been there and done that

That is a reasonable question; even though God had anointed him, David still needed to prove himself in the eyes of the people.

On the day the giant Goliath bullied the nation into quivering submission, David said: “have no fear for I am here. I will go fight that giant!”

That same David had to deal with the doubters mocking him, but was brave enough to stand. First, his own family mocked him. The soldiers mocked him. King Saul mocked him. Goliath laughed in his face, but David stood firm, trusting in God. He did not listen to the assaults of everyone thrown his way, but kept his eyes on God’s call in his life.

David had long before prepared for the battle with Goliath. He had taken the fight to the lion and the bear on more than one occasion. He was afraid, but his faith in God had been greater. That faith kept him before the doubters and then the battle with Goliath.

David never doubted whose power won the battle. He told Goliath that he had impressive weapons and experience, but Goliath didn’t know God and his power. David told Goliath that he would cut off his head and feed his body to the birds.

So long before they crowned David king, men and women knew they could follow him. David is worthy of teaching, leading, and being trusted by his people.

So as you step out to train men for the ministry, know that you must have been there before. Have you stood against the onslaughts of the devil? Have you proved God’s power in your life?

No one wants the armchair quarterback who has no experience in the game. No one likes the guy who can teach what the books say. They are looking for a guy who has been there and done that.
