Is it Worth the Risk

What is the best way to avoid drunkenness?

Genesis 9:21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

God used Noah extensively. Noah had saved the world and his family. Now Noah is back on solid ground. He plants a vineyard, harvests some grapes, makes wine, and gets drunk.

When God uses His servants significantly, they often think they deserve an extra privilege. They are tired and stressed from the long service and want to compensate with extra relaxation. In their pride, they can think things are different for me.

Success makes us want to celebrate and relax. Noah is enjoying the moment too much. He gets drunk and then naked.

He gets angry with his son for seeing his nudity. His family suffers horribly. There will be division and separation in the family now.

All of this happened because he got drunk. When you are drunk, you will embarrass yourself, as Noah did. You lose control when drunk; you don’t think about the consequences.

Why don’t you decide to avoid drunkenness? The best way to do that is to avoid alcohol altogether. Drinking alcohol is like playing Russian roulette. It might seem fun, but it can change into tragedy in a minute.

Being under grace causes many Christians to say that not drinking alcohol is because of legalism. They reject the warning because they are free in Christ. Your freedom in Christ is to serve Him, not yourself.

Noah never intended for any of this to happen. You will not plan for anything terrible to happen, either. Just remember, drunkenness brings embarrassment.
